Court Runner
Ontario courthouse attendance with clear pricing
We attend the court office for an administrative task you specify: deliver final documents supplied by you where counter filing is accepted, or collect an already-ready record with the required authority. Document handling is limited to printing and technical assembly on your instructions, without drafting or changing legal content.
Choose the right option
A dedicated visit or routine filing with another order
Dedicated Court Runner — $95 + travel + HST
One court file, one visit and up to 60 minutes of courthouse work and waiting, including local travel for a courthouse in London or Sarnia, or within 25 km of the nearest File & Serve office. Choose this as a standalone service or with a process-serving order. Outside-area Ontario court travel is calculated automatically at $0.85/km beyond 25 km from the nearest London or Sarnia office, once per dedicated court visit. It is itemized separately from any process-serving travel before payment. Outbound and return billable kilometres beyond the included 25 km zone are charged; no travel-time fee is added.
Routine filing add-on — $50 + HST
Available with a process-serving order on an available planned local route: one file, one courthouse visit and up to 30 minutes of courthouse work and waiting. This is a limited routine filing task, not an unlimited dedicated visit.
Select only one of these options for the same task. Timing and counter availability are reviewed before dispatch. Existing accepted orders retain their agreed prices.
Time and expenses
Review what is included before paying
- Extra courthouse time: $20 + HST per additional 15-minute block started of work or waiting, only up to the limit you authorize. Extra time used is itemized after attendance for separate payment; unused authorized time is not charged and your card is not debited automatically.
- Time measurement: The court-time allowance starts when we join the court-office queue or begin the instructed court-office task, whichever comes first, and ends when that attendance concludes. Travel does not reduce the court-time allowance. For extra time, 1–15 minutes counts as one block; no unused authorized block is charged.
- Your time limit: We seek new instructions before continuing beyond it. Choosing no additional time means we cannot promise completion if the task or queue takes longer than the included time.
- Expenses: Court fees, court copies, parking, courier and other expenses are separate, agreed in advance and itemized with applicable tax treatment. Our printing remains $0.50/page + HST.
- Travel: Outside-area Ontario court travel is calculated automatically at $0.85/km beyond 25 km from the nearest London or Sarnia office, once per dedicated court visit. It is itemized separately from any process-serving travel before payment. Outbound and return billable kilometres beyond the included 25 km zone are charged; no travel-time fee is added.
- Complex work: Archives, not-yet-ready records or work requiring multiple visits need a written quote before payment, with the scope, visit allowance and approved expenses stated.
- Repeat visits: A revisit caused by our administrative error has no extra attendance fee. Other revisits, including court closures, missing client documents or unavailable records, require a new fee agreed before the visit.
Example: A dedicated local visit taking one hour and 45 minutes costs $95 plus $60 extra time: $155 + $20.15 HST = $175.15, before agreed expenses. The 45 minutes must be within your authorized extra-time limit.
What to provide
Give the office a complete administrative instruction
- Court name, court-office address and postal code
- Court file number, or your reference for a new filing
- The exact task and final documents to deliver, or the ready record to collect
- The deadline and directions supplied by you or your legal representative
- Required collection authority and any court notice confirming availability
- Your extra-time limit and any agreed expense allowance
Before dispatch, the office checks logistical details, document receipt, availability and whether the requested counter attendance can be arranged. This is not a review of legal content or sufficiency. If we cannot accept or arrange the requested visit before dispatch, the unperformed Court Runner service fee and related HST are refunded.
Service scope
Administrative attendance, subject to court procedure
Many court filings must use electronic procedures. We do not offer e-filing through this service and do not promise that a court counter will accept a paper filing. Court-office hours, current filing directions, record-access rules and availability apply. Confirm that the requested physical task is permitted and provide any required authority.
We do not select court forms, draft or revise pleadings or motions, review legal sufficiency, determine filing deadlines, give legal advice, make legal submissions or represent you at a hearing. Payment purchases the agreed administrative attendance, not court acceptance, access to a restricted record or a particular outcome. An archived-file search or a record that is not ready for collection requires a written quote first.
After the visit, we report the administrative outcome and provide the court receipt or confirmation when issued. We relay any administrative information received from the court office; we do not advise on legal next steps. Attendance does not itself prove that filing was accepted.
